August 2023 Nonprofit Member Spotlight

Milagro Center

The Milagro Center helps underserved and academically at-risk children and youth through cultural arts education and other programs.

The Delray Beach nonprofit also places youth involved in the juvenile justice system in individual or group mentoring matches.

We asked President and CEO Barbara J. Stark to explain how our community can get involved with the center.

Tell us about your mission and cause:

Our mission is to ensure the social and academic success of underserved and academically at-risk children and youth through cultural arts education, Living Values and Life Skills, academic support, and mentoring, benefiting not only the children and youth served but their families and the community as well. Milagro Center carries out its mission by providing afterschool, summer camp, and ARTreach programs to disadvantaged and academically-at risk children and teens in grades K-12.

How can the community get involved in helping you achieve your mission?

If you would like to help us achieve our mission, we are always looking for mentors and volunteers. Milagro Center has two robust mentoring programs for you to choose from. The Mentoring Miracles Program serves the children and teens in our afterschool programs. Our Level Up Program serves as a hub for southern Palm Beach County and places youth involved in the juvenile justice system in individual or group mentoring matches.

How has membership in Nonprofits First benefited your organization?

Membership in Nonprofits First has empowered us to achieve our mission. The Accreditation process helps us increase our eligibility for grant funding, and all of our staff benefits from Nonprofits First Trainings and Support Services. Being a Nonprofits First member is also a tremendous vehicle for networking.

Tell us what being Accredited through Nonprofits First has meant for Milagro Center.

Being accredited through Nonprofits First has helped position Milagro Center for success. Our organization first became accredited back in 2006 when our operating budget was less than $500,000 annually.  Since that time, we have continued to maintain our certification for “Excellence In Nonprofit Management” and our annual budget has grown to over three times that amount. Milagro Center has plans for expansion in the near future, and our affiliation with Nonprofits First will certainly be a positive factor towards this goal.
