November 2023 Nonprofit Member Spotlight
Member Spotlight November - Gulfstream Goodwill
Gulfstream Goodwill Industries has a long history of helping people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
The nonprofit based in West Palm Beach operates four homeless shelters, a charter school, and adult programs for those with disabilities.
We asked the agency what our community can do to assist in expanding its mission. We also wanted to know how Nonprofits First has assisted them through the years. Here’s what the Gulfstream Goodwill Industries told us.
Tell us about your mission and cause:
Gulfstream Goodwill Industries is a community-based not-for-profit organization that has been changing lives through housing, training, education and employment since 1966. GGI has a long history of providing meaningful opportunities to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. In the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, we operate four homeless shelters and a charter school as well as provide adult programs for those with disabilities.
How can the community get involved in helping you achieve your mission?
We would love for the community to contribute to our Season of Giving Campaign. Their support will directly benefit the residents of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, helping us to operate our shelters and empower individuals through job training and employment. These donations ensure access to essential services like shelter, food, and clothing.
How has membership in Nonprofits First benefited your organization?
Nonprofits first has been essential in helping GGI focus on philanthropic support to help us meet the needs in our community. Your resources are assisting in our efforts to expand our funder base so that we reach more people. There are over 1,800 homeless people in our area this year, and we only have 300 shelter beds. The pandemic heightened the learning gap for vulnerable populations and our charter school enrollment has grown 125%.
What has being accredited by Nonprofits First meant to Goodwill?
Being accredited by Nonprofits First represents a standard of excellence in our programs and services for those in need. Gulfstream Goodwill Industries is recognized as a premiere nonprofit by being awarded this accreditation. It's a seal of approval that partners, funders, and the local community recognize as an organization to trust and one that incorporates best practices into our operations.
